I just finished Mark Levine's book "Liberty and Tyranny". A great read! I highly recommend it to all fellow patriots. At the end he posts a list of things that could be implemented to bring us back to the realm of sanity. I wonder what ideas you guys have to improve our country. I know posters to this site are able to think outside the box. If not from us then where?
There is only one thing we can do that will have any lasting effect on our country...and that is to teach our children.
If you've ever read "Animal Farm", you know that the "puppies" were taken away and then when the "animals" finally decided to revolt, guard dogs were set against them... the "puppies" had been trained... by the very ones that they were revolting against.
Conservatives need to understand that the public school system is training their children to be liberals. It is an agenda and it has been going on for at least the last 25 years.
That's why the twenty somethings don't freak out at the word socialism. They have been learning that it is the right way to govern...while mom and dad thought they were learning the capital of North Dakota, and their ABC's.
Public school is a training ground for liberals. Don't think otherwise. If you must have your child there, you must debrief on a daily basis. You must give your own reading assignments at home and discuss them. And if you are young...you may have to educate yourself first.
It's not your fault if you were propagandized. But start doing something about it so you can help the next generation. READ...read everthing on Glen Becks reading list. And I mean EVERYTHING! Don't say you don't have time. This is a war. You need to make time. You need to turn off the television and read.
I know that a lot of GB's reading is heavy. And if you're not used to that...then start with Peter Marshall, jr's "The Light and The Glory". It's easy to read and you will get a true overview of the history of our nation...and you will see how God influenced the founding fathers and why. I assure you that you were never taught that in any public school.
Then get a copy of the "The Light and the Glory for Children" and read it to/with your children. How many of you have read the constitution? Do you have a copy in your home? Have your children ever seen it? Sit down and talk to them about it and what each point means. Explain to them that they need to know what they think or else someone with tell them what they think. Explain to them the roots of America. Trust me...they did not learn that in public school. What they learned was that the pilgrims were a group of radical Christians who tortured innocent people into confessing to witchcraft. And that is all they know about the people of faith that sacrificed everything in order to begin a nation where they could worship freely and live free of tyrannical oppression and burdensome taxation.
Conservatives also need to come up with ways to educate the nations children...not just their own. In order to "take back America"... we'll have to take back America's children.
The liberals have been working hard to get our children for years. And it has worked...extremely well.
I know this is not the short answer you probably expected. But this is a hot button for me. Kate~

Kate,
Your point is right on the mark. "If you are afraid of getting a rotten apple, pick it off the tree." Yes, it starts with the kids and their curriculum. Thinking for oneself seems to be a four letter word these days, and that need not be the case.
Cheers,
JT

Hokie Dad is right. Levin's book is excellent. If you have not read it, then please do so. In addition, his note section is an excellent place for additional resources. I would also recommend reading the Constitution and all of the Amendments, The Federalist Papers, Anything by Ben Franklin, Skousen's "The 5000 Year Leap," and for Pete's sake read "Common Sense," by Thomas Paine. I'm sure that audio books are available for many or all of these, so there is no excuse.
Happy Reading,
JT

Kate is correct about the Public school system. They have become indoctrination centers. My kids go to a private Christain school. I was surprised by some of their stuff. My wife and I instruct our kids about current events. They ask some really good questions. Also, with me having a history degree, they're going to get the real history, not the revisionist version they teach in schools.
Both my wife and I are Air Force veterans, so they know the military aspect as well, and they know what it means to serve. My son wants to be a Navy Seal, and my Daughter wants to be a Doctor in the military. Both are saved Christains, all I could hope and pray for.
Parents need to instuct their children on the forming of this nation. They need to teach them the constitution, declaration of independence, the founding fathers, etc. Why? Because the history taught in shools today is primarily reconstruction to today. And even in this, they do a lousy job. Teach your children history and citizenship, don't rely on somebody else to do it, because it will be their ideas that get passed on.

Everyone,
Excellent points!
I am a firm believer that once you release your child to a public school, you have lost all control of your child.
My brothers & I were raised in both public and private schools. We learned far more in private Lutheran & Catholic schools than we learned in public schools.
My 5 & 7 yrs old girls never been and never will go to public schools. They go to a Lutheran school. Unfortunately, I discovered (along with other parents) that almost all private schools, including our Lutheran school, barely go above what is required by state law.
I've homeschooled both girls during toddler years and during summers. It appears that I will have to homeshool them full time in order to further their education......
