If you are a gun owner or just a concerned citizen, I suggest joining the NRA. They are the biggest lobbying group on Capitol Hill, and fight tooth and nail for our rights. They have been instrumental in keeping our 2nd Amendment right protected. The yearly fee is low, and you get a magazine subscription.

Also the NRA Institute for Legislative Action is a great source for Bills and Government actions on the 2nd Amendment.

The National Rifle Association is now offering a free 1 year membership:

They also offer significant reduced cost for membership of greater than 1 year.

I've been a Life Member of NRA since 1972. Their magazine The American Rifleman is worth the yearly membership cost by itself.

I'll also add, until last year I was a member of AARP. They are history in this household. I couldn't stomach their politics.

Thanks for the heads up on 1yr trial membership. I almost have my wife convinced into buying a gun. I hope before it's too late.

Thorgo, I don't know anything about NJ gun laws. Here in New Mexico there are no laws other than Federal, and nobody pays much attention to them.

If you can do it back there, buy from a private individual. If NJ is like here, no paperwork is filled out, so nobody knows you have a firearm. The less Those People in DC know about what you have, the better.

Here is a link to a video from a Texas PBS station that interviewed Ted Nugent:
I think he's got it right:
